The accident took place on Friday night at Tata Steel Officer Enclave in Sector Beta here when the victim, identified as Amit Tomar, 30, peeped into the door to see whether the lift was functioning or not.

Tomar, who worked as a manager at a multi-national company, died on the spot. He lived at an apartment in D-block.

“At D-block, the glass in the door was broken. Around 10.45pm on Friday, the guard went to the third floor of the block after an alarm was raised. He saw the man hanging at the door,” said Yashvir Sinha, secretary of a residents’ welfare association.

“Tomar lived with his wife and two children, who had gone to their village in Muzaffar-nagar,” said Sinha. “Majority of the residents of the building are tenants who do not care for its upkeep and hardly report any damage to the management,” said Sinha.

Some residents alleged that the mishap took place due to the management’s negligence, saying that the lift should have been properly maintained.
