“We have asked auto drivers to get registered starting Wednesday and around 300 drivers are on our list now. We have taken their photo, finger prints and all the other information to make a database. This exercise will certainly help the police to keep a track of them,” said Bharti Arora, DCP traffic.

The drive was carried at Mahavir Chowk on MG Road where a number of volunteers participated.

The police also fined 100 bikers for not wearing helmets.

The department has asked Municipal Corporation Gurgaon (MCG) to remove encroachment from the area to decongest city roads. In their bid to educate drivers, officials also asked commuters to follow the lane system to avoid traffic jams.

“They often violate the rule which causes chaos. We asked auto volunteers to instruct their colleagues to follow regulations,” said Bharti Arora, DCP traffic
