Of them, about 200 offenders have already paid the penalty.

The project 3rdEye’ was launched on August 3 as a joint effort between police and mobile phone manufacturer Nokia in order to keep an eye on traffic violators and check incidents of road rage in the city.

According to the police, the project has helped the department to generate revenue as well as create a sense of fear among violators.

Under the project, the traffic police discreetly click photographs with the help of a Nokia N5 handset.

On the basis of the registration number plate, police locate the address of the offender and send a challan through courier.

“We are getting good response from our constables about 3rdEye as they can book violators with proof. After verification of pictures, challans are sent to the address mentioned in the records,” said a senior traffic police official.
