4 constables arrested for custodial death

After investigating the custodial death of Narayan Rathod who died in the Central Police Station for a year, the Ulhasnagar state CID arrested four constables on Saturday.

After investigating the custodial death of Narayan Rathod who died in the Central Police Station for a year, the Ulhasnagar state CID arrested four constables on Saturday.

Deputy superintendent Narayan Vakhaare said, “We arrested the four police constables, Ashok Bhosale, Anil Sangale, Dwarkanath Karale and Atmaram Salve and are looking for three others.”

The police said on February 23, 2011, senior citizens Goverdhan Dalwani and his wife Kavita were found murdered in their house at Ulhasnagar.

During the investigation, the police got a tip-off saying the couple’s son-in-law, Rathod, murdered them, they added

The police, therefore, held Rathod for questioning. While in police custody, however, Rathod died, the police said.

After Rathod’s family complained against his death the police filed a murder case, which was then transferred to the state CID. Public prosecutor Chandrakant Patil said, “ Around 24 injury marks were found on Rathod’s body. The constables have been sent to police custody for two days.
