DIVISIONAL COMMISSIONER CN Dubey kicked off the current round of Pulse Polio immunisation campaign by administering polio drops to an infant, at Shiv Prasad Gupta Divisional Hospital here on Sunday.

Additional director (Health and Family Welfare) Dr OP Pathak, chief medical officer Dr AP Singh, chief medical superintendents Dr PN Singh and Dr W Singh, and district health information officer Dr SC Joshi also administered polio drops to children.
WHO surveillance medical officer (polio) Dr AK Pandey said around 40 per cent children below the age of five were administered polio drops today. He said the remaining children would be immunised during the door-to-door campaign in the next five days.
As many as 1,806 booths were set up in Varanasi district, out of which 1,098 booths were set up in rural areas and 708 booths in urban areas, he further said . Five booths were set up at Varanasi Cantonment railway station. Polio booths were also set up at Maduadeeh, City and Kashi railway stations besides the Roadways bus stand.
As many as six mobile teams were deployed in four trains, including Swatantrata Senani Express, Lichavi Express, Sadbhavna Express and Varanasi-Chapra passenger, to administer polio vaccine to children.

{{/usCountry}}Dr Pandey further said around 20 mobile teams were deployed to cover 240 brick kilns across the district to ensure that not a single child was left unimmunised.
A total of 1,134 mobile teams would be deployed for the door-to-door campaign, he added.
Apart from, this various non-government organisations, social and cultural organisations also set up their booths to administer polio vaccines to children.
