District immunisation officer Dr Swatantra Mishra inspected the drive in Chaka. He also visited polio booths in Kareli, Naini and Daraganj. “The response at the polio booths in the urban areas was average. But still it was slightly better than the previous drive. About ten per cent of children of the identified resistant families in the urban area were also administered polio drops,” he claimed.

Dr Mishra said reports indicated that the Kamala Nehru Memorial Hospital immunised 3075 children, Cantt area polio booths immunised 1539, Northern Railway 1789 children and SPM Department 731 children.

The response in the rural area was good and the trend showed that about 60 per cent of children were immunised at the polio booths, he added.
“The remaining children will be covered by a team that will make house-to- house,” he said.

A lot of appeals were also made to sensitise people about the polio drive. But still the response at the polio booths in the city was poor, he added.
“However, during the six-day drive our main target will be to cover all the resistant families and ensure that the targeted children are administered polio drops,” he said.
