As many as 43 people were killed by Maoists and security forces during the six-month period after the April ceasefire, the National Human Rights Commission of Nepal said here pointing that the rebels continued to indulge in abduction, extortion and other violent activities.
The acts of killing, abduction, extortion, torture, intimidation and other types of violence continued even during the six-month ceasefire period after the success of the April's movement that ended absolute rule of the King, according to a report by the rights body.
Eleven persons were killed by the state forces, 15 were killed by the Maoists, five died in stray bomb explosions, five were killed by anti-Maoist retaliation committees and seven were killed by unidentified groups, the report, made public on Wednesday, said.
The Commission received a total of 1,158 complaints of human rights abuses from April 26 to October 30.
Other incidents of rights abuses such as torture in police custody, army men beating up civilians and security forces assaulting and threatening people were also recorded.

{{/usCountry}}"Insecurity prevailed as the government failed to provide law and order," said Dhruba Nepal, acting secretary of the commission.
The Maoists continued to force people to come to their self-styled 'People's Court', engaged in extortion activities and captured government buildings and schools during the six-month ceasefire period, he pointed out.
