Forty-four persons were arrested at Hosur near Krishnagiri when they tried to block a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation bus in retaliation to the protests by pro-Kannada groups in Karnataka opposing the Hogenakkal Integrated Water Project.

They were protesting against attacks on cinemas screening Tamil movies as well as Tamil Sangam office in Bangalore by the groups, police said.
Special Task Force and Special Police teams were posted at Jujuvadi, bordering Tamil Nadu and Karnataka as a precaution, police said.
