An estimated 50 per cent electorate exercised their franchise on Thursday during the repolling in 54 booths including in Kayamganj constituency of Farukhabad district, where Uttar Pradseh Congress chief Salman Khursheed's wife is contesting elections.

Polling was held peacefully in one booths each in Salempur, Sohawal, Luxmipur Mubarakpur, Fazilnagar and three booths in Ayodhya besides 46 booths in Kayamganj, UP Chief Electoral Officer AK Bishnoi told reporters.

About the arrangements for tomorrow's counting, Bishnoi said data management centres had been opened in all the 70 district headquarters where trends of every round would be fed and later uploaded on EC website.

A total 6070 candidates were in the fray including 368 women and 2572 independent candidates, he said adding 1.10 lakh polling booths and over 63 thousand polling centres were set up for conducting the polls.

He said Aryanagar in Kanpur was the smallest constituency with 144 polling booths and 1.66 lakh voters and Ghaziabad was the biggest constituency with 810 booths and 8.64 voters.

A total of 1086 observers including micro observers were posted during the polls, he said adding with their help the EC succeeded in holding free and fair polls in the state.
