At least five persons were charred to death in a fire in a slum cluster in east Delhi that destroyed nearly thousand hutments, fire department officials said.

The blaze, which took place in a slum cluster on the banks of Yamuna in Geeta Colony locality, reported at around 10:00 pm, and was of medium intensity, they said.

Twenty-five fire tenders were rushed to the spot to extinguish the blaze, the officials said.
