State leaders of Manipur People’s Party (MPP), NCP, JD(U), RJD and CPM launched the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) on Sunday with MPP president Nimaichand Luwang as its convener.

“People want a change in the January 28 polls,” said Luwang, who was accompanied by JD(U) state president M Tombi and RJD state president K Kumarjit.

Announcing a list of 30 PDF candidates for the 60-member assembly in the first phase, Luwang said MPP would fight for 15 seats, NCP for 9, JD-U for 5 and CPI-M for one.

Besides, PDF would support the candidature of CPI leader M Nara in Wangjing-Tentha constituency and BJP aspirant Indira Devi in Thoubal seat, he said. CM O Ibobi is contesting from Thoubal.

In the last assembly polls, the Congress won 30 seats, MPP 5, CPI 4, NCP 4, RJD 3, the National People’s Party 3 and Trinamool Congress one seat. Ten seats went to Independents.
