After the incident, the furious parents and their relatives staged a protest and demanded registration of a case against the house owner who had dug the pit for causing death due to negligence.

The deceased was identified as Saloni, daughter of Raju who lives in labour quarters in the Kanganwal area. Haling from Uttar Pradesh, Raju had shifted to teh Kanganwal area around one month ago.

Raju said Saloni was playing outside the home around 8pm on Saturday. Due to darkness she failed to notice the pit and fell in to it.

“The pit is 5-foot deep and is filled with water,” he added.

The siblings raised the alarm and informed the parents who with the help of area residents pulled the girl out, but she was dead.

On being informed, the cops from Kanganwal police post reached the spot.

However, no case was registered in this context. Sub-Inspector Satnam Singh, in-charge of Kanganwal police post, said there was no negligence on part of Sanjeev Kumar, owner of the house.
