CAUTIOUSLY FLEXING his muscles, Municipal Commissioner Vinod Sharma clipped the wings of Additional Municipal Commissioner Kumar Purshottam by divesting him of the all-important Establishment section.
In a wide ranging reshuffle effected late last evening, Sharma handed over the charge of the section to Deputy Municipal Commissioner Ravindra Jain.
The transfer marks a major climbdown for Purshottam, hitherto one of the most powerful officials in the IMC whose influence wasn’t dented even during former Commissioner P Narhari’s tenure.
In a fresh set of orders issued on Tuesday, Narendra Sharma, who was instrumental in finalising the FY ’07 budget after the ouster of V K Jain for alleged irregularities amounting to Rs 13 crore, was appointed Accounts Officer. Incidentally, the appointment has been made even as the Corporation has requisitioned the State Government for a Treasury department official to man the post.
In another injudicious move, Assistant Engineer Vinod Nagar has been appointed Assessment and Survey Officer in place of R K Dhiman who has been shifted to the Market Officer’s post. Incumbent Market Officer Ramakant Pandey has been shifted to the Vigilance Department.

{{/usCountry}}Meanwhile, after yesterday’s orders Ravindra Jain, a deputation official who joined the IMC last month, has also been entrusted responsibility for the education and legal departments in addition to being appointed in-charge of the Central Store.
He will also oversee matters pertaining to employees’ salaries. Purshottam, meanwhile, has been appointed in-charge for the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) projects, as well as the newly constituted IT Cell. He will, however, continue as in-charge of the Colony Cell.
In another shake up, Additional Municipal Commissioner K R Jain has been allotted additional charge of the Accounts Department in addition to his present responsibilities as head of the Revenue and Waterworks Departments.
IMC Secretary J C Galar has additional charge of central workshop in addition to his present charge.
