50 houses reduced to ashes

ATLEAST FIFTY houses in Kanti village under Ghurpur police station in the district were reduced to ashes following a fire which spread in moments and devoured these houses.

The incident is reported to have taken place in the evening. Fire fighters and more than a thousand residents of the area were jointly fighting to control the devastating fire which spelled disaster in this village. The cause of the fire could not be immediately known but sources said strong wind added fuel to the fire which had already destroyed nearly 50 houses at the time of filing of the report.

A team sent by the administration had also reached the place to assist the firebrigade and the villagers. Sources said efforts were still on to control the fire which had been spreading fast in this village. Paucity of water in the area had worsened the situation, informed the sources.

Three die in smash-up
THREE PERSONS succumbed to their injuries while at least half a dozen sustained injuries after a Marshall jeep collided head-on with a Commandar jeep. The accident took place near Upardaha under Handia police station. All the injured were rushed to the SRN hospital. The injured included a medical officer.The accident is reported to have taken place after the tyre of the Commandar jeep burst suddenly, causing the driver to lose control over the vehicle which collided with the coming Marshall jeep. Most of the victims were occupants of the Commandar jeep.

INJURED: An unidentified man, around 20 years of age was admitted to the SRN Hospital with injuries on Saturday. He was injured after he fell down from a running train on Friday.
