More than 500 Asaram supporters protested against his arrest outside the Jodhpur central jail on Monday as police were forced to lathicharge the mob and had to detain around 50 people.
Asaram was sent to the central jail on Monday when hundreds of his supporters reached at the main gate of the Jodhpur Central jail and started shouting slogans against police.
“More than 500 followers of Asaram were protesting at the main gate of Jodhpur jail and some of them lied down on the street,” an eyewitness said adding that only few police personnel were present.
Some police officials who arrived the jail tried to convince the supporters to leave. But the supporters turned violent and the cops had a tough time controlling the mob.
“Around 50 supporters of Asaram have been rounded up and we are looking for others,” said a police official.
He said that policemen have been asked to search all the hotels and dharamsalas for the supporters and take them out of the city.
Asaram Supporters target media Supporters of Asaram once again targeted mediapersons on Monday evening and damaged more than three vehicles and OB vans of news channels covering the event.
“We were watching the protests by the supporters but they suddenly started shouting and pelted stones,” a news channel crew member said adding that OB vans had been damaged. One of the drivers sustained injury on his face during the stone pelting.

{{/usCountry}}Media was also attacked on Saturday at ashram of Asaram in Pal village, around 15 km from Jodhpur. Three members of a news channel were injured. Police had booked 13 Asaram followers for attempt to murder and robbery and 11 of them were remanded to judicial custody on Monday while two others were taken in police remand.
