More than 600 private schools, including 60 CBSE and ICSE-affiliated ones, have decided to observe a one-day strike on Friday in protest against implementation of Section
134-A of the Haryana Education Act, Rule-2003.
While Scottish High International, DPS, Euro International, Blue Bells, Lord Jesus and DAV will be closed on Friday, Amity International and Ryan International are yet to decide.
As per Section 134-A, 25% seats in private schools have to be reserved for students from economically-weaker sections (EWS), chosen on merit basis .
Also, the school management will charge fees as is charged in government educational institutions. In the wake of government schools providing free of cost education, the balance amount will be recovered from the remaining 75% students.
The school managements alleged that if they calculated the fee of all EWS students, and divided the same among the remaining 75%, then the latter would have to pay 33% extra.
“This is not justified. Why should other students bear unnecessary burden? This means that parents’ who paid R3,000 fee per month, will now have to pay R4,000,” Col Kr Pratap Singh, president of the Haryana Progressive School Conference, told Hindustan Times on Thursday.
Satvir Singh Chaudhary, president of the Federation of All Private School Association, said, “The representatives of nearly 600 schools from the district will protest against the state government in Chotu Ram Stadium at Rohtak.”

spent on upgrading infrastructure and bettering facilities,” said Satvir Singh Yadav, director, Euro International Group of Schools.
