647 Garhwal polling booths ‘hyper-sensitive’

As many as 1,531 polling booths have been identified as sensitive and hyper sensitive in the seven districts of Garhwal range, where assembly elections are scheduled to be held on January 30. Out of these 647 have been identified as hypersensitive and the rest 884 as sensitive. HT reports.

As many as 1,531 polling booths have been identified as sensitive and hyper sensitive in the seven districts of Garhwal range, where assembly elections are scheduled to be held on January 30. Out of these 647 have been identified as hypersensitive and the rest 884 as sensitive.

Notably, Garhwal division consists of seven districts, namely Dehradun, Uttarkashi, Tehri Garhwal, Rudraprayag, Haridwar, Pauri Garhwal and Chamoli. The majority of the sensitive and hypersensitive polling booths have been identified in Haridwar and Dehradun districts.

“We have identified 258 hyper-sensitive polling booths in Haridwar and 192 booths in Dehradun district are also hyper-sensitive, where adequate security arrangements are to be made,” DIG (Garhwal) Sanjay Gunjyal told Hindustan Times.

Due to the high number of sensitive booths here, 44 companies of central paramilitary forces will be stationed in Garhwal division to ensure peaceful elections. In the entire state, 75 companies of central paramilitary forces will be deployed. There are 41 assembly seats in Garhwal division with 4,396 polling centres and 5817 polling booths. According to an estimate, there is a 20-25% increase in the number of polling stations in Garhwal division.
