66 BJP names for 2 Council seats

IT WAS yet another example of the chaos and infighting prevailing in the State unit of the BJP. The State BJP has ?unanimously? recommended an unprecedented 20 and 66 names to its Central Parliamentary Board for two Rajya Sabha and an equal number of Vidhan Parishad seats which the party is sure to win!

IT WAS yet another example of the chaos and infighting prevailing in the State unit of the BJP. The State BJP has ‘unanimously’ recommended an unprecedented 20 and 66 names to its Central Parliamentary Board for two Rajya Sabha and an equal number of Vidhan Parishad seats which the party is sure to win!

The long list of possible contenders for the Rajya Sabha includes the names of State BJP president Keshari Nath Tripathi, Legislature Party leader Lalji Tandon, sitting Rajya Sabha members Balbir Punj and Kalraj Mishra, besides firebrand leader Vinay Katiyar and Kovid Kumar. The name of Keshari Nath Tripathi was proposed by Kalyan Singh and that of Tandon by Tripathi.

The BJP State Election Committee met here on Monday to select probable candidates for the coming Rajya Sabha and Vidhan Parishad elections.

Nobody wanted to take responsibility and all passed the buck to the Parliamentary Board to avoid a direct confrontation. It is the basic job of the State Election Committee to recommend a few names after proper scrutiny, but the committee simply decided to forward all the names without any comment or recommendation. This has made the job of national president Rajnath Singh more difficult.
