Peeved over the slow pace of probe in the July 11 serial blasts in Mumbai, the Centre on Monday asked the Anti-Terrorist-Squad (ATS) of Mumbai Police to pull up its socks and concentrate on the leads provided by central security agencies in cracking the case.
This was conveyed at a meeting chaired by Union Home Secretary VK Duggal to senior officials of ATS headed by its Joint Commissioner KP Raghuvanshi, informed sources said.
Immediately after the 30-minute meeting, both Duggal and Raghuvanshi met National Security Advisor MK Narayanan and briefed him about the investigations in the case.
The meeting comes close on the heels of reports from the security agencies that internal fight between the Crime Branch and ATS was taking the toll on the investigations of July 11 serial blasts that had left nearly 200 people dead.
The arrests made by the Mumbai Police have so far failed to crack the case and the theory still revolved around that the explosions was a handiwork of Rahil and Zabiuddin Ansari.
Though Maharashtra Chief Secretary D Sankaran and DGP PS Pasricha were scheduled to attend the meeting, they could not come because of pre-occupation with the flood situation in the state. They are likely to come here later this week.
