A total of 2,894 students have been caught copying this year — double last year’s figure. A quarter of these were students copying during the Maths exams.

In Mumbai division, including Thane and Raigad, about 21 students were caught copying on Thursday, Maths I, and 28 students on Friday during the Maths II exam.

“The number of copying cases have increased in Mumbai this year because of the supervisors were told to be alert,” said Basanti Roy, divisional secretary.

For the first time this year, the Board introduced sitting squads in exam centres vulnerable to copying.

Also, senior officials like tehsildars and department heads were present at the centres to curb cheating.

This year, the state has decided to pull up supervisors and principals of the exam centres as well if students are caught copying by the flying squads.
