9th Asian Symposium on Information Display

The 9th, edition of Asian Symposium on Information Display was held in New Delhi on October 9, 2006. Organised by Society for Information Display, the 4 day-long Symposium focussed on the varied aspects of display science and technology.

The inaugural session of ASID'06, which is recognised as the international display industry's leading event, was marked by the presence of eminent scientists like Dr Larry Weber, the inventor of Plasma TVs, Dr. Fan Luo, AUO from Taiwan, R Chidambram, Principal Scientific Advisor to Govt. of India and Satish Kaura, Chair, SID India Chapter.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Larry Weber, President SID, said, "With a strong education system, India is emerging as a leader in technology development. And holding an event of this magnitude in India will propel it to achieve more in display development".

Sharing his vision on Display Technologies, R Chidambram said, "Till date India has built a strong science and technology platform but a coherent synergy between academia and industry needs to be created to put India on the path of growth". "To close the gap between these two segments, directed basic research would be imperative in the selected areas of importance keeping in mind the global perspective", he added.
