The GLX 125 would count as one of the most frugal machines in its class. The VTi technology, first seen in the TVS Centra, makes things very lean and efficient inside and around the combustion chamber. So you have a machine that has 0.8mm thin piston rings, Teflon coated chain guide, a roller rocker follower and a spark plug whose firing is controlled by complex ignition maps. In a nutshell, this is a smart machine that knows how petrol should be spent.
That it is 125cc means that it also has greater power than the commuters around. At 10.8bhp, the figure is the middle of the pack in its class. However the GLX does not display the perkiness of the Freedom Prima and the dynamics of the Fazer. Not that it’s that slow or inferior in performance. Corner to corner, the GLX is capable of holding its own against competition but its the excitement factor that seems to be missing. That it has four gears adds to the nature.
But the bike more than makes up for it in the fuel efficiency stakes. The GLX comes with the usual speed/power indicator lights on the console and like the Victor the throttle sensor works even when the engine is off. Switchgear is borrowed from the Victor and is top notch. Where the GLX 125 disappoints is the styling. It looks a cross between the various existing TVS products. All in all, the GLX is a good package and the option of disc and drum brakes is welcome.
