The People’s Committee- spearheading the protests- has announced that a phased protest programme would begin on June 30 in Kashmnir.

For the second consecutive day the residents of southern district of Shopian were not allowed to move out of their homes. People also complained that many residents were thrashed by CRPF for violating the restrictions.

“They (government) have imposed curfew without announcing it or citing any reason. CRPF men beat students and even teachers. They abused girl students going for their examinations. Some people have even been arrested,” said Mohammad Shafi Khan, spokesman of Majlis-e Mashawrat, a people’s committee formed to spearhead the protests.
