Fortyfour-year-old Varkala Mohan, works as a labourer at the railway station here to make both ends meet, but finds time to pursue his hobby-- penning poems and composing devotional songs.
Mohan says he has composed several devotional songs, brought out three cassettes of devotional songs and an anthology of poems which are in good demand.
Another collection of his poems would be released shortly, Mohan told PTI here.
Originally hailing from Varkala in Thiruvananthapuram, Mohan had to give up schooling after completing seventh standard. He left home after his father's death and reached here. He has been working as a labourer in the station for past 30 years.
"Thiruvady Ayyappan", a cassette with 11 devotional songs in praise of Lord Ayyappa of the famous Sabarimala hill shrine, was released at a function here on October 19. Two other devotional song cassettes have been released earlier and another is to be released soon.
Mohan's anthology of 41 poems, "Raagamithrem" was published in 2002 by the Pen Books. His second anthology containing 50 poems would be published shortly. The poems deal with topics like corruption, growth of goonda gangs in the state and also the social responsbilities of the citizens.
