Such a step would go against the country's interest, a union spokesman said this evening, at the end of the deliberations of the union's two-day conference. The conference began on Wednesday.

Threatening to launch agitation if the union's demand was not considered, the spokesman said "we also want modernisation but it should be done under the guidance of AAI and not under private entrepreneurs."

He alleged that the AAI management was delaying to take decisions regarding the promotion and pension issues of employees.

"Unless these are also sorted out we would be forced to launch agitation against the AAI management," he said.

The detailed programme of the agitation would be announced at a later stage, he added.
