Aamir Khan

Coming a close third on the list of favourites, Aamir Khan has been the steadiest star overseas even though Lagaan released three years ago.

Aamir Khan was born in India on March 14, 1965 as the son of Tahir Hussain and nephew of Nasir Hussain. He was first introduced as a child artiste in the 1970's hit Yaadon Ki Baaraat (1973).

Soon after that he quit movies and went on to become the state tennis champion for Maharashtra. He made his come back with the famous Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988), which was released when he was 23. The film met tremendous success and as is said made him a star in one night! Ever since Aamir has not stopped to succeed.

He has acted in all genres of Indian films - comedy, action, drama and romance - and for this reason today he is acknowledged as one of the most complete actors of the Indian film industry. For his devotion and perfection in his work he was awarded Padma Bhushan for the year 2003 by the Government of India.

Some of his sterling performances include Dil (1990), Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin (1990), Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander (1992), Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke (1993), Andaz Apna Apna (1994), Rangeela (1995), Raja Hindustani (1996), Ishq (1997), Ghulam (1998), Sarfarosh (1999), Dil Chahta Hai (2001) and Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India (2001).

His experience as producer in Lagaan inspired him to make two more films which are currently under production: Rang De Basanti and 1857: The Rising.
