The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday demanded that the Congress should apologise for having betrayed the nation by entering into a deal with the BJP and burying the probe into the 2009 illegal snooping of a young woman by the BJP's PM candidate Narendra Modi's government in Gujarat.

"The union home ministry's reported views that among other things, the decision to set-up a commission of inquiry to probe the illegal snooping, including that in Gujarat, has been left to the new cabinet, has confirmed the consistent apprehension of the AAP that the Congress was not at all sincere in probing such a serious issue," AAP said in a statement.

Calling it as "shocking" the entire Congress leadership's "mysterious silence", the AAP said, the incumbent party is unwilling to make public the reasons behind its u-turn for not implementing the December 26, 2013 cabinet decision to set up that commission of inquiry.

This commission of inquiry was to probe the illegal snooping carried out by the orders of Modi's closest aide, Amit Shah, the then minister of state for home in Gujarat.

The AAP further challenged the Congress to answer: why it did not appoint a judge to head this commission of inquiry; whether it entered into a deal with the BJP and if the Congress had abandoned the Right to Privacy of the Indians? "We will expose the deal between the BJP and the Congress," the AAP said.
