The black Tata Indica with a Haryana registration number was parked in the market since Sunday evening and no one came to claim it.

On Monday morning, the shopkeepers and locals grew suspicious and enquired about the car owner.

The onlookers, who had surrounded the car, feared that the car contained arms and ammunition or was laden with explosives. High drama followed as residents panicked.

They somehow managed to break into the car and found some liquor bottles and informed the police.

The car owner, however, showed up around 11.30 am and told the police that the tyres got punctured at night and he could not find any mechanic, which forced him to leave the car unattended, said an eyewitness.

The police have not registered any case.
