The district court convicted Chhatrapal, Pawan and Jitendra and will pronounce the quantum of punishment on Monday. Four others were let off for lack of evidence.

“The convicts are lodged in a jail. The other four accused in the case, including Ram Dayal, Santosh Devi and Veer Singh, were let off by the court as their involvement was not proved,” said KK Singh, the district government counsel.
Anant was kidnapped on November 13, 2006, while he was on his way to school. He returned home four days later after a ransom of Rs 50 lakh was paid. On the same day, the police arrested Jitendra.

Later, all seven accused were arrested and Rs 47.5 lakh was recovered from their possession.
