ABVP members held for protesting Rahul function

Police on Friday arrested about 100 members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of BJP in the Chhattisgarh capital for protesting Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi's visit to the university.

Police on Friday arrested about 100 members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Chhattisgarh capital for protesting Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi's visit to the university.

Some 100 activists, belonging to ABVP, were arrested for demonstrating outside the Pandit Ravishankar Shukla University where Gandhi was scheduled to interact with members of Congress' student wing, National Students Union of India (NSUI), according to Amit Kumar, Raipur district superintendent of police.

Minutes after the arrests, Gandhi drove to the university complex and interacted with NSUI members, asking them to bring talented youth into the NSUI.
