The directive has been issued by the UPPCL is view of the grave power crisis in the State and in order to ensure power supply to farmers for the irrigation of Kharif crop. These directives of the PCL would be effective till September 15, 2006.

According to PCL directives a fine of Rs 3000 would be imposed on a domestic power consumer for using an AC between the prohibited hours of 4 pm and 8 pm. A fine of Rs 5000 has been imposed on KESCo employees and pensioners using ACs during the prohibited hours.

KESCo Chief General Manager SM Agarwal said that special teams have been formed to enforce the decision of the UPPCL. Households having patients have been kept out of the purview of this new order by the corporation.

“If during the checking a household presents any medical document, related to one of its members, justifying the use of an AC, then it will be exempted from the purview of the orders,” stated Agarwal.
