Activists of VHP, Bajrang Dal and Shiv Sena gathered at the Mandi after getting information of the death of cows and blocked the Ujjain-Agar Road. The protesters termed the incident as an act perpetrated by antisocial elements wanting to disturb communal peace of the town and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits. They alleged that the cows were killed by a section of a minority community to hurt the religious sentiments of the majority community.

Collector Neeraj Mandloi and SP Jaideep Prasad reached the spot and promised to take stringent action against the guilty. Post-mortem of the dead animals was performed at night. Veterinary officials confirmed that the cows had died after eating poisonous wheat atta.

The protesters were adamant on bandh call even as officials were pressed that the incident might have occurred due to a mere lapse and the matter was being investigating. VHP leader Ashok Kotwani announced that his organisation had called an ‘Ujjain bandh’ on Monday to protest the incident.

Meanwhile, the Congress has also joined the issue and staged a protest at Kanthal Choraha against the proposed bandh.
