The meeting is more of an ice breaker and it will not lead to an immediate resumption of the dialogue between the two countries, stalled since the Mumbai attacks nearly seven months ago.

India will convey its expectations to Pakistan to take credible action against terrorism, reliable sources said on Monday ahead of the meeting.

New Delhi, however, was at pains to stress that the meeting that has taken place due to pure chance, the two principals being at the same place at the same time, should not be construed as a sign of weakness or softening of India's position against terrorism emanating from Pakistan.

The half-an-hour meeting will take place at Hotel Hyatt on the sidelines of the Shanghai Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit on Tuesday afternoon.
