THE RECENT suspension of three ADA building inspectors and one junior engineer (JE) is being viewed as a mere eyewash. What is interesting is the fact that the axe has fallen on them for acts of omission and commission of their predecessors.
However, no action has been taken against those ADA officials who were actually involved in promoting illegal constructions which were still going on despite the HC orders that no such building activity be allowed.
Whether it’s Ashok Nagar, posh Civil Lines, George Town, Tagore Town or Mumfordganj illegal construction was in full swing in these places in connivance with ADA officials.
The HC has recently directed the authorities concerned to remove all encroachments from city roads. The HC order made reference to the MG Marg and SP Marg and directed the ADA to remove encroachments.This was done to facilitate the traffic flow. But none of the building inspectors or the Zonal officers in the above areas have been punished despite the fact the several newspapers reported about their illegal activities.
ADA insiders say that if a building inspector or JE fails to issue challan report in the case of an illegal construction, an FIR should be filed against him. But no such action has been taken in any case till now. Sources say that under sections 27 and 28 of the Urban Planning and Development Act, after a building inspector or JE issues a challan in case of an illegal construction, the same goes to the zonal officer through the AE who puts his counter sign. It is finally the ZO who has the authority to seal the building or order demolition. None of the ADA officers to the question as to why none of the zonal officers were punished till date?
