Vyas said reports in a section of the media were creating confusion about the college. “I wish to clarify that we are now a constituent college of the University of Allahabad, which is a Central university and that we are complying with all the rules and regulations, as per its instructions and duly published in the bulletin.

There is neither any flaw in the entrance test, nor in granting admission to BA, B Sc B Com and LLB first year classes. It is solely based on the merit list,” she said.

Dr Vyas said in view of the turnout of admission seekers, the test marks were reduced.

“Various admissions committee are headed by senior faculty members who are being assisted by other faculty members.

“Such demands are never ending. They are raised from time to time, for reasons best known to the student leaders. We believe in quality education, and intend to provide it. We request the student leaders to withdraw their agitation to achieve the objective of higher education in Allahabad Degree College,” she said. Senior teachers, including chairmen of various admission committees, including Dr RN Singh, were present on the occasion.

Reduction in school holidays protested
THE YOUTH Brigade of the Secondary Teachers’ Association staged a demonstration at the Subhash Crossing in protest against reduction in holidays in secondary schools.

Reduction in the number of holidays during festivals like Dussehra, Diwali, Nagpanchami, Anant Chaturdashi, Matri Navmi, Pitr Visarjan, Easter, Shab-e-Barat and Ravidas Jayanti amounted to an assault on the religious beliefs of the people, the speakers said.

The teachers urged the district magistrate and the State administration to intervene in the matter. They said district education officials were trying to commercialise education by taking such steps.

Among the main speakers were: State president Ajay Singh, State secretary Anil Mishra, Niranjan Singh, Swami Nath Tripathi and Surendra Kumar.
