"By not addressing this (Kashmir) problem, I think the political leadership of the country is neither helping the interests of country nor fulfilling their responsibilities," said Tarigami at a press conference in Srinagar.

Tarigami said Kashmir needs serious attention by all concerned as it is passing through a crucial period.

"Kashmir unrest should not be misconstrued as a law and order situation," said Tarigami.

He said time has come to understand the root cause of the present unrest.

"The problem must be understood and addressed accordingly. We should also outline the responses to present situation," said Tarigami.

The CPI (M) leader said it will be a futile exercise to know from where the present cycle of violence started.

"But what we must be concerned about is that it is the innocent people who are at the receiving end," he added.

Tarigami said the Government of India must understand the message of angry people especially the youth.

He demanded release of political prisoners, especially the youth detained during the recent unrest.

"The angry youth are conveying something that we must try to understand whether we agree with their mode of communication or not," said Tarigami.

The GoI must not respond through the prism of security forces, he said.

"This is a political unrest which needs to be addressed with a humane approach," said Tarigami.
