The state cabinet on Wednesday passed a resolution condemning 'atrocities' by Karnataka government against Marathi-speaking people in border areas'.

A group of Shiv Sainiks vandalised a Pune theatre and stopped the screening of a Kannada film, police said. They removed posters of the film at Ratan cinema located in the heart of the city.

Sena activists targeted Karnataka buses, erasing Kannada words written on it and painting Marathi slogans in saffron demanding inclusion of Belgaum, Dharwad, Nipani and other Marathi-speaking areas in Maharashtra.

In Aurangabad, a Karnataka Bank branch was ransacked by a group of 8-10 youths shouting anti-Karnataka slogans. They burnt an effigy of Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, police said.

Activists of Sena's student wing Bharatiya Vidyarthi Sena staged a demonstration in front of Karnataka Bank branch in Nashik, protesting the Karnataka Chief Minister's stance on Maharashtra-Karnataka border issue.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister said he would be leading an all-party delegation to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to seek speedy resolution of the vexed border dispute with Karnataka.

"The affidavit filed by Maharashtra government in the Supreme Court over the border row would be made stronger if needed and the state government would present its case more forcibly," Chavan said.

Karnataka has been rejecting Maharashtra's claim over the Marathi-speaking areas. The boundary dispute has led to violent protests in the state since last week.
