This call centre will be initially put in place withfive lines of a dedicated phone number. Anyone in emergency can call this number for help. It will help ascertain real-time call details. "Once a call is received, the information would be passed on to the PCR van concerned in no time for immediate action," said district magistrate MKS Sundaram.

Hindustan Times on Tuesday reported fourteen of the 17 police stations' landline phones in Noida and Greater Noida remained disconnected for over a month. Calling police for help can be difficult as cell phones provided to the police control rooms (PCRs), too, seldom work. On March 22, HT found most of the phones to be 'out of order'.

Shockingly, some phone numbers displayed on the websites were also found to be incorrect. Most of these landline phones at police stations were functional till the UP assembly elections. After that, the telecom operator had disconnected the lines over non-payment of bills.

"People will also be able to send text messages. The new system will record real-time details and help us check crime. This system will strengthen the public grievances redress system," he said.
