Admn gears up for Sawan

THE DISTRICT administration has started hectic preparations to ensure smooth passage of devotees at the ancient Kashi Vishwanath temple during the month of Sawan slated to begin from July 12.

Commissioner of Varanasi decision, VB Singh Bisen, and district magistrate, Rajiv Agrawal, held separate meetings with the officials of concerned departments here in this connection on Wednesday.

While chairing the meeting, the commissioner said a commando squad would be deployed on the premises of the ancient Kashi Vishwanath temple to avoid any untoward incident.

He directed the officials to make special arrangements for the entrance of Kanwariyas (devotees of Lord Vishwanath who come on foot from distant places) inside the temple.

The commissioner also directed the officials of concerned department to repair the non-functioning hand pumps on the temple premises and 25 new water points along with installation of water tanks at the barricaded places. He also expressed concern over poor light arrangements in the red zone area of Kashi Vishwanath temple.

Keeping in view the twin bomb blasts in Varanasi on March 7, intensive security arrangement will be ensured in Varanasi during the month of Sawan. The police administration has decided to install 26 new police outposts in Varanasi.
