THE ADMINISTRATION has chalked out a plan to conduct free and fair civic elections in the district. Electoral lists, to be completed by October 24, will be made available to the returning officer Nagar Nigam by October 29 and the RO of Nagar Panchayat by November 1. Zonal and sector magistrates will be appointed by October 21 and they will be imparted training on October 26.

Heavy vehicles will be taken over by October 22 and ballot papers will be given to the returning officers on October 27. Tehsildars of respective areas will arrange polling booths, drinking water and streetlight by October 29. The same will be done for Nagar Panchayat on November 1. Polling stations for Nagar civic elections will be taken under custody by October 28 and 31 respectively. Polling parties for Nagar Nigam election will leave for their destinations on October 30 and Nagar Panchayat on November 2. Polling for Nagar Nigam election will take place on October 31 from 8 am to 5 pm and Nagar Panchayat on Nov 3 from 8 am to 5 pm.
Meanwhile, Vijay Kumar Mishra, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) mayoral candidate, has dwelt upon his priorities to ensure all-round development of the city.
Addressing his maiden press conference in Civil Lines here on Saturday, Mishra, who is also the BJP city unit general secretary, brought to light several startling facts related to Nagar Nigam functioning, especially irregularities in installation of hand pumps and tubewells.

{{/usCountry}}Mishra, who owns a machinery shop, said that he must disclose that grave financial irregularities were committed at the time of installing handpumps and tubewells by Nagar Nigam and Jal Sansthan.
He claimed that the cost of installing a hand pump was Rs 14,500 but Nagar Nigam charged Rs 22,000. He also said that a tubewell installation cost Rs 3.5 lakh but Nagar Nigam charges Rs 6.5 lakh per tubewell. He said that if he was elected he would conduct a thorough probe to bring corruption prevailing in Nagar Nigam to light.
He was focusing on Nagar Nigam’s problems and said that many of them were not being solved because of corruption in every department of the Nagar Nigam.
As a result of corruption, the class III and IV employees were struggling to get their salary on time, he added.
The BJP mayoral candidate said that around 10,000 files regarding house and water taxes were gathering dust in Nagar Nigam offices.
Referring to law and order, inflation, corruption, anarchy in the State, the BJP candidate said that it was the high time to take a decisive step against SP.
