The counsel for Abdul Karim Telgi — the mastermind of the multibillion-rupee stamp paper scam — alleged on Thursday that former Deputy Prime Minister LK Advani was in the know of a cache of Rs 55 billion that was seized by investigative agencies, but never recorded officially.
The counsel, Abdul Rehman, claimed Advani owed an explanation to the nation as to why the funds, which belonged to Telgi, had not been deposited in the Government exchequer.
Addressing a news conference in Delhi, Rehman said: "The huge cache of money should have been deposited in the public exchequer but this did not happen. Advani owes an explanation to the nation as to where that money actually went."
Rehman claimed he had met Advani on three occasions and briefed him about the location of cache of money, which could not be traced by investigative agencies probing the stamp paper scam.
