“The project will irrigate 15,000 hectare land in Dhar district. Almost 85 per cent of farmers from 53 villages, to be benefited by the project, belong to tribal community,” Minister of State for Narmada Valley Development Nagendra Singh said in a press release here.

PWD and Dhar district in charge Minister Kailash Vijayvergiya, Water Resources Minister Anup Mishra, MPs and MLAs from the region will also be present, Singh added.

The 138 metre long, 53 metre tall dam — which has nine huge radial gates, a main canal and sub-canals on either side — will be able to irrigate about 15,000 hectare land.

Increased production of fish in the reservoir will be another important project gift for the tribals in the area. The reservoir will have an estimated capacity of 46 metric tonne annual fish production.

Four rehabilitation sites have been created at Kesur, Aamkheda, Junapani and Jeerabad of the Dhar district, the press release added.
