Yet, more than the children, it is the parents who need not just to keep their wits about them, but also to provide adequate encouragement to the child to perform within his/her capacity.

"Parents must show a lot of cooperation now and should not pressurise the children. The most important things that they must remember is to not go by marks. Students have achieved 100% marks and parents should not go by that. Children have ample time to grow into multidimensional individuals and marks are only a very small factor," said Professor Yash Pal, former chairman of the UGC and a prominent educationist.

However, the trick is to maintain a fine balance between disciplining the child and motivating the child to perform relatively well.

Teachers also feel that while it is important for the parents to keep a watch on their child's study routine, remaining calm is imperative for the child's peace of mind.

Experts also believe that not only is it important for parents to be supportive, but the atmosphere in the house, must also be adequate for the child to study seriously in.

It is also important for the parents to ensure that the child gets adequate rest, to avoid fatigue from continuous study.

"The home atmosphere should be conducive to studying. Parents must ensure that the child sleeps for at least eight hours a day and must keep reassuring the kids. One of the two parents must also be home to provide continuous support to the child," said Dr. Sameer Malhotra, senior psychiatrist at Fortis Hospital (Noida).
