Amid growing concerns worldwide over drug trafficking emanating from Afghanistan, the country has sought India's help in tackling the problem and said the two countries could also cooperate in eliminating terrorism from the region.
Afghan Foreign Minister Rangin Dadfar Spanta assured that his government would do everything to ensure the security of Indians in Afghanistan, considering concerns being expressed here in view of the killing of two Indian nationals and threats to several others by the Taliban.
Spanta advocated the need for a "comprehensive strategy", including targeting of the "sources" of international terrorism, and said India and Afghanistan could share their experiences on tackling the scourge.
"We have to attack the roots, not only the symptoms of terrorism. There is a need to target the sources of terrorism like ideology, training, finances and other logistics. These are the factors that guarantee continuity of terrorism," he informed in an interview in New Delhi.
Without specifying whom he meant while talking about "sources" of terror, Spanta underlined the need for the cooperation of neighbours in tackling the situation.
Talking about the possibility of cooperation between his country and India in tackling terrorism in the region, he said, "We have successful experiences. India also has successful experiences. We can share (experiences) and learn from each other."
