With all the ingredients of a cool middle-order batsman under his belt, Aftab had his first taste of international cricket in the first Test against England in late 2003.
Although he didn't make it to the final eleven, he did play his role as a substitute fielder and made immediate impact by taking a difficult diving catch.
With impressive performances in the 2002 Youth World Cup, 2004 under-19 World Cup and consistent scores in the Bangladesh National League, the selectors had their eyes on Aftab for a long time.
Aftab boasts of excellent footwork and remarkable judgement, while his attacking style of play is a charm to the audience. He has some weakness against the swinging new-ball, but once settled he is hard to dislodge.
He is also a prolific fielder with sharp reflexs.
