CHIEF MINISTER Mulayam Singh Yadav’s troubles are far from over, with Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati throwing open the doors for the 40 rebel MLAs to return to the party-fold.

“Earlier, too, all the 40 MLAs were with BSP. After the order of the Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court, all of the MLAs continue to be members of our party,” she said.

Talking to mediapersons, Mayawati said the High Court order clearly indicated that Mulayam Singh Yadav used the BSP MLAs unconstitutionally to run his government.

“After the confidence vote on the floor of the Vidhan Sabha, a majority of the rebel BSP MLAs contacted me and informed me that they voted in favour of Mulayam Singh Yadav under confusion. Advocate General Virendra Bhatia misguided them and they were left with no other option, but to vote for the Mulayam government,” Mayawati said.

She further claimed the rebel MLAs assured her that in future, they would abide by the whip issued by the BSP and even vote against the Mulayam Government.

Though several of the rebel BSP MLAs were made ministers or appointed chairmen of various corporations, they are now anxious about their fate in the election.

A rebel BSP MLA who played a crucial role in wooing the 40 MLAs to SP, said if Mayawati had opened the doors for them, they would think about her offer.

Along with taking them back into the party fold, she must also ensure party ticket for them, he said.
