C Rangarajan chairman of Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council and Montek Singh Ahluwalia deputy chairperson of Planning Commission are expected to submit their resignations to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

“I will meet the Prime Minister on Monday. I need to talk to him once then only (I will resign),” Rangarajan was quoted by news agency PTI. Rangarajan headed PMEAC since 2005.

Ahluwalia, who was panel’s deputy chairperson for 10 years, would be submitting his resignation along with that of other members of the commission to the Prime Minister. Panel sources said that the deputy chairperson is required to submit resignation letters of all members with him to the Prime Minister.

The term of the plan panel members and that of the PMEAC mandated to advise the government on economic issues expires with that of the government.

Official sources said that members of some other bodies appointed by the PM are also expected to tender their resignations in couple of days before the National Democratic Alliance government takes over.
