NEARLY 19,000 prospective pensioners whose applications have been hanging fire for over three years will soon be able to avail the social security benefits.

The Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has initiated a zone-wise survey to verify eligibility of applicants who submitted claims from January 1, 2003 to January 2006.
Mayor-in-Council (MiC) member in charge of Woman and Child Welfare department Sapna Chauhan informed that application forms of residents who applied for old age, social security and destitute pension payments have been forwarded to the concerned zone offices for scrutiny.
“Zonal officers will verify the antecedents of claimants in coordination with corporators and return the forms of bona fide applicants to the department.
The approved applications will be vetted by nodal officer (pension) Dr Rajesh Kothari following which pension distribution will begin after obtaining the Commissioner’s approval,” Chauhan added.
According to the MiC member, 14,595 pension forms forwarded to the zonal offices pertain to old age social security payments while the number of handicapped claimants amounted to 1,787. Applications submitted by destitute widows accounted for another 1,056 while approximately 2,600 forms for semi-rural areas have been submitted to the concerned sub-divisional magistrate.
