His wife, Tabassum, and two brothers had asked the government to either hand over the body or allow them to perform his last rites at his grave in Tihar jail in accordance with religious traditions.

“We have been waiting, but there has been no response,” Afzal’s elder brother Aijaz Guru said on Sunday. “At least, they should allow his son to perform his last rites.”

Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah is in favour of allowing Afzal’s family to perform the last rites.
