The bodies of 60-year-old Tinkari Dey and his wife Maya Dey (50) were recovered from their house in Dolouigachha village by the police after neighbours alerted them when the couple failed to emerge from their house in the morning.

"It is a clear case of murder," Arun Gupta, IG (Wn range), who visited the site of the murder, said after initial investigations.

He also said the man, who was entangled in electric wire, had an injury in the back of his head while the woman had strangulation marks on her neck.

Police sniffer dogs were also taken to the spot to find a clue to the murder as prima facie no motive was apparent, he said.

Earlier, the police had suspected the death to be a case of suicide. The police had to break open the doors of the house to enter the house of the Deys.

This was the second death in Singur area, which is in national focus due to controversy surrounding the Tata Motors project as on January 18 a young girl was burnt to death.

The case has already been handed over to CBI, a demand made by Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee who is sitting on a hunger strike for 25 days protesting acquitiion of farmland for the Tatas' project.
